Today was a very special day for me as I am sure it was for many others whom are referred to as Veterans. I spent the vast majority of my adult life as a Soldier in the United States Army. I was seventeen years old when I enlisted, and still in high school. I spent my summer in “boot camp” and remember the great joy, pride and sense of accomplishment when I made it through the thirteen weeks that would change my life. Through my twenty years of service I never lost that sense of pride in what I was doing. My service to my country made me feel like I was doing something for the greater good. Something that not many people would raise their right hand to do. The oath of enlistment was powerful and still rings in my ears today, “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” I was full of pride every single time that I re-enlisted and repeated those words. Being a veteran is a humbling experience, and I am proud that I toed the line with so many brothers and sisters in arms who did the same. I will always remember those that I served with. I will never forget the blood, sweat and tears that we shed and the unbreakable bond of combat. To all my brothers and sisters in arms out there, I wish you all well and hope you had a great Veterans Day…. you have earned it!
