When I decided to embark on my journey as a web developer I knew there would be some long days and even sleepless nights. While pursing my degree in web publishing I always had a hard time when debugging my code. I would sit at my desk for hours and go over my code out loud. I’m certain that my family thought that I was going nuts, but it helped to talk it out. After I completed my degree I attended a coding bootcamp. While at the bootcamp I had the pleasure of working with some pretty cool and downright smart people. While attending class I heard one of my cohort mates talking about his debugging duck. I pondered what he said for a minute and said out loud…what’s worse? talking to yourself or talking to a rubber bath toy? Well needless to say I would rather look crazy talking to a cool rubber duck than just mumbling to myself. After some research on the internet I realized that I needed a rubber duck in my life. It sounds funny to admit it but, I have talked my code out with my “Bat Duck” on a handful of occasions already and it has helped tremendously. My son still thinks I’m nuts for spending $10 on a “rubber duck.” He said I could have just talked to myself and saved the money.
